Patient Reviews

What a truly idyllic experience at Worthy! Right when you step in, you are greeted with beautiful decor and lovely gals. Allison the owner, was so welcoming. I was seated and given a complimentary champagne. I also noted a nespresso machine as well. Must come back for that! I had a full body sugar scrub spa treatment with Madison. The natural scent was milk and honey, so I felt like I was in a lovely dreamy world. Love this place!

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser Hair Removal works on the premise that light is attracted to the pigmentation in the base of the hair follicle. When the light from the laser enters the hair follicle it travels down the shaft of the hair sending a quick burst of heat. This is an effective way to destroy unwanted hairs while keeping the skin safe. We use a specialized laser, called Diolaze XL, that specifically targets the hair for permanent removal.

Laser hair removal requires multiple sessions to see full results. We recommend 8-10 sessions for full hair loss. Full hair loss is considered 70-99%, depending on the colour and texture of the hair. To optimize hair loss, we suggest coming every 4-6 weeks for hair on the face, and every 6-8 weeks for hair on the body.

There is little doubt now about the effectiveness of laser hair removal as the procedure has a proven history that is decades old demonstrating its safety and effectiveness. The technology used at Worthy Waterloo is the gold standard for laser hair removal.

When a new client tells us they have been disappointed with laser hair removal in the past, we’re not surprised. What many people fail to realize is that the effectiveness of laser hair removal is largely connected to the type of device as well as the skill of the technician. Laser hair removal technology has come a very long way, and we are proud to have the best on the market.

If you’re new to laser hair removal and looking to learn more or seeking a new welcoming practitioner, then Worthy Waterloo is the place for you. Our medical aestheticians take more time with our clients to ensure they're having a confortable and effective treatment each time.

What Are The Hair Growth Stages?

Your hair grows and sheds according to three cycles which can greatly impact laser hair removal treatment.

Stage one is anagen, which is the growing phase. Your hairs are inside the follicles and deeply rooted at the dermal papilla and germinal matrix, forming the hair bulb. Often this initial phase can last between 4 and 6 weeks on the body but years on the head.

Stage two is catagen, which is process when the hair prepares to shed. The follicles start to shrink and detaches from the dermal papilla which general lasts 8 to 10 days.

The final stage is telogen, which can sometimes be called the resting stage and can last up to 3 months. The new hair begins the growth phase and the cycle starts again. This is why multiple laser hair removal sessions are vital for satisfactory results. When at least eight sessions are performed, you will begin to see long-term results (this depends on your hair thickness and the laser you choose).

Who Is A Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Although many people make excellent candidates for laser hair removal, we recommend you meet the following basic guidelines:

  • Your unwanted hair has a pigment (colour) darker than the colour of the skin. We treat many hair types from thin light brown hair to coarse black hair, and every skin type.

  • You understand why multiple treatments are required to obtain permanent results

  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding

If this sounds like you, book a complimentary consultation and we'll make a treatment plan and answer any questions you may have!

How Long Does It Take To Recover From Laser Hair Removal

One of the great benefits of laser hair removal is the fact there is no real downtime or recovery period. Depending on the sensitivity of your skin we find some clients have some redness or irritation but this disappears a few hours after the treatment. We reccomend avoiding swimming and excessive sweating 24 hours after your treatment. Other than that, there's nothing to worry about! It's easy to pop into your schedule.

Different Types of Skin

The advanced technology that Inmode offers allows us to treat every skin type with laser hair removal. Our medical aesthetitians are specially trained to customize your laser hair removal experience to ensure safety, comfort, and optimal results. We refer to the Fitzpatrick scale to determine the specific settings that are best for you.

TYPE I - There is a low amount of melanin in the hair, skin, and eyes. Your skin always burns, never tans, and is sensitive to UV exposure.

TYPE II - There is a low to moderate melanin concentration and you have a cream-coloured or olive complexion. Your skin burns easily and tans minimally.

TYPE III - You have a moderate melanin concentration with light tan, golden, or an olive complexion and any hair or eye colour. As a result your skin burns moderately and tans gradually to light brown.

TYPE IV - Moderate to high melanin in the skin, resulting in a caramel, tanned, or medium brown complexion. Your skin burns minimally and always tans well to moderately brown.

TYPE V - High melanin concentration producing black or dark brown skin, dark eyes, and black or brown hair. Your skin rarely burns and tans profusely to dark

TYPE VI - Very high melanin concentration. Your skin never burns, is deeply pigmented, and is the least sensitive to UV exposure.

The team at Worthy Waterloo ensures that every laser procedure being done is safe for your skin type.

Recovery Timeline for Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal has a pretty simple recovery process. Some clients will experience bumps and redness in the area being treated but this goes away within 8 hours (some times a day or two). However you should note that ingrown hairs might take several days to express and dead hair shafts will eject over the initial 2 weeks.

We recommend you wear sunscreen when going out in direct sunlight and avoid suntanning for a couple of weeks after treatment.
